3M™ 4950 VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape is a firm, acrylic adhesive tape with excellent long-term holding power. The peel adhesion and tensile holding power is significantly higher than typical pressure sensitive tape products. 3M™ 4950 VHB™ joining systems can, in many situations, replace rivets, spot welds, liquid adhesives, and other permanent fasteners.
Very high bond (VHB) joining systems utilise firm acrylic adhesives which have excellent long-term holding power. The 4950 acrylic adhesive foam tape is part of the VHB joining systems which are known for their tensile holding power as well as resistance to extreme temperatures, UV light, and solvents. This is a must-have tape for both indoor and outdoor uses.
VHB™ joining systems are suitable for bonding a variety of substrates, including sealed wood, many plastics, composites, and metals. Plastics which can be problematic include polyethylene, polypropylene, Teflon, silicones, and other low surface energy (LSE) materials. Plasticised vinyl bonding is dependent upon the types and concentrations of plasticisers which can migrate into the adhesives, causing a reduction in bond strength; 4945 is most resistant to plasticiser migration.
