3M™ 5958FR VHB™ Flame Retardant Tape
3M™ 5958FR VHB™ Flame Retardant Tape is a fast and easy-to-use permanent bonding method that provides high strength, long-term durability and is flame retardant. Virtually invisible fastening keeps surfaces smooth. This flame-retardant tape can replace mechanical fasteners (rivets, welding, screws) or liquid adhesives.
This black, multi-purpose adhesive is comprised of a very conformable acrylic foam core that bonds to a wide variety of substrates including powder coated paints and irregular surfaces. This modified acrylic adhesive is a double-coated 1.0 mm pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape for bonding a wide range of materials, including many metals, plastics, and painted substrates.
For maximum bond strength, the surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and prepared with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. Ideal tape application is accomplished when the temperature is between 21° and 38°C and the bond can dwell for 72 hours.
The flame-retardant properties of 3M™ 5958FR VHB™ have passed on the following criteria:
- FAR 25.853 (a) 12 second Vertical Burn Appendix F, Part 1 (a) (ii)
- toxicity Draeger Tube, ABD0031, AITM 3.005
- NBS Smoke Density after 4 minutes Ds@4.0 (Reference ABD0031 and BSS 7238)
