The 3M™ VHB Acrylic Foam Tape is a fantastic indoor and outdoor tape that uses acrylic adhesive for extra holding power when bonding with surfaces. Thanks to the VHB qualities of this foam tape it has a significantly higher holding power than other pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes. Resistant to U.V. light, solvents, and extremes in temperature this is a great multi-purpose tape for many industrial applications.
This 3M™ foam tape can be used in many applications. Most common uses are in creating permanent fasteners such as in spot welds or when replacing rivets. VHB Acrylic Foam Tape joining systems are excellent for bonding a variety of materials including composites, metals, sealed wood, and most plastics. Please note that plastics that are composed of polyethylene, polypropylene, silicones, Teflon, galvanised surfaces, or any other low surface energy materials may not be suitable for proper bonding with 3M™ 4945.
One of the special features of this acrylic foam tape is very good plasticiser resistance, which is important in vinyl formulation. Using the acrylic adhesive, the 3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape 4945 bonds extremely well to pain finishes or plasticised materials (particularly vinyl’s).
Always prepare your surfaces before applying the 3M™ 4945 tape, make sure that the area is clean, dry, and free of fibred materials and pores. Surfaces that are not unified will need to be sealed before the Acrylic Foam Tape is applied. Some metal or plasticised materials will require priming or coating to ensure there is no interaction between the acrylic and the surface. Please speak to a member of our technical helpline to learn more about which surfaces will require extra care before application.
