4936 3M™ VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape

4936 is a conformable, very high bond acrylic foam tape which has added performance for bonding to plasticised vinyl due to a specially formulated adhesive which resists plasticiser migration. In addition this core adhesive composition makes the product well suited to many paints and primers.

Its improved conformability also allows more complete bond contact area when bonding rigid or irregular materials. The product has somewhat lower peel, tensile and shear performance than other VHB tape products due to its inherent softness.

4936's principal advantages are that it provides a more uniform seal on irregular surfaces, and in visible bonds under a transparent surface it offers a more aesthetically pleasing bond. 4936 is suitable for many interior and exterior industrial applications.

4956 3M™ VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape

21st Century tape. Replaces rivets, bolts, screws, welding and liquid adhesives. Incredible VHB strength guarantees a strong bond. Soft conformable foam molds to irregular surfaces. Bonds well to painted metals, plastic and glass.

Temperature range is –40°F to 200°F. Dampens noise, shock and vibration. Resists moisture, UV, solvents and plasticizers –won't loosen or degrade adhesive. Indoor/outdoor.

Dark gray acrylic foam with acrylic adhesive; Kraft paper liner.

5952 3M™ VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape

A double coated pressure sensitive adhesive tape for bonding a wide variety of substrates including lower surface energy materials such as powder coated paints and plastics.

In many cases abrasion of surface is not required.

Surface Preparation Using 3M Products

To obtain optimum adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and well unified. Typical cleaning solvents are 3M™ VHB Cleaner, a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water or heptane.

Be sure to follow solvent manufacturer's directions for use and precautionary warnings when using solvents (Steps A & B)

Bond strength is dependent upon the degree of adhesive-to-surface contact developed. Firm application pressure helps better adhesive contact and thus improves bond strength (Steps C & D)

After application, the bond strength will increase as the adhesive flows into the surface. At room temperature approximately 50% of the ultimate strength will be achieved after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and 100% after 72 hours. In some cases bond strength can be increased and ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly by exposure of the bond to elevated temperatures (eg. 70C for 1 hour).m This provides better adhesive wetout onto the substrates.
