4941 3M™ VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape

4941 is a conformable, very high bond acrylic foam tape ideal for badge and trim mounting in the automotive industries.

Its improved conformability also allows more complete bond contact area when bonding rigid or irregular materials. The product has somewhat lower peel, tensile and shear performance than other VHB tape products due to its inherent softness.

4945 3M™ VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape

Excellent long term holding power. The peel adhesion and tensile holding power of this products is significantly higher than typical pressure sensitive tape products.

Resistance to solvents, temperature extremes, and U.V. light make 4945 is suitable for many interior and exterior applications.

4947 3M™ VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape

Its improved conformability also allows more complete bond contact area when bonding rigid or irregular materials. The product has somewhat lower peel, tensile and shear performance than other VHB tape products due to its inherent softness.

This product is identical to 4941, except black in colour.

9465 3M™ VHB™ Adhesive Transfer Tape

0.005 in. (0.13 mm) thick adhesive transfer tape designed to resist many of the plasticisers typically found in vinyls and plastics.

9465 Tape has been specifically formulated for bonding to flexible vinyls and to resist the effects of plasticiser migration.

Surface Preparation Using 3M Products

To obtain optimum adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and well unified. Typical cleaning solvents are 3M™ VHB Cleaner, a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water or heptane.

Be sure to follow solvent manufacturer's directions for use and precautionary warnings when using solvents (Steps A & B)

Bond strength is dependent upon the degree of adhesive-to-surface contact developed. Firm application pressure helps better adhesive contact and thus improves bond strength (Steps C & D)

After application, the bond strength will increase as the adhesive flows into the surface. At room temperature approximately 50% of the ultimate strength will be achieved after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and 100% after 72 hours. In some cases bond strength can be increased and ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly by exposure of the bond to elevated temperatures (eg. 70C for 1 hour).m This provides better adhesive wetout onto the substrates.
